We board up with plywood cut to the opening and fastened to the frame, sweep the glass, and take the measurements for permanent replacement on the same visit. Commercial Glass for Storefronts, Offices and Retail
A broken storefront is an open door, a liability claim and a closed register at the same time. Call the dispatch line and the opening gets secured first — plywood cut to the frame and fastened to the aluminum, not taped over the hole. Then we template the opening, order the glass, and set it when it lands.
Most commercial work is not breakage, though. It is a door dragging on the threshold, a closer slamming hard enough to crack the lite, a lobby partition being reconfigured for a new tenant, a property manager who needs the fire-rated glazing documented before an inspection. We handle the hardware and the glazing together, because on an entrance they are the same job.

- Quarter-inch tempered in standard aluminum framing, insulated units where the frame is thermally broken. We match the existing glazing pocket and gasket, not just the dimensions.
- Doors and hardware
- Bottom pivots, thrust bearings, closers, panic devices, pull handles. A door that drags is almost always a worn pivot, not a bent frame.

Shower & Bath
Frameless Shower Doors and Custom Bath Glass
A frameless enclosure is a measuring job that happens to involve glass. Tempered glass cannot be cut, drilled or notched once it leaves the oven — every hinge cutout, handle hole and polished edge is machined first, then the panel is tempered. Get the template wrong and the panel is scrap, not a trim job.
So we template the finished tile rather than the framing, and we check plumb on every wall before anything is ordered. Bathrooms in this area are rarely square, and half an inch of lean across a tall panel is the difference between a door that stays where you put it and one that drifts shut on its own. Where a wall is out, we correct it with hardware and channel — never by forcing the glass.

- Three-eighths tempered for most enclosures, half-inch where a panel spans wide or carries the door. Clear, low-iron, frosted, or a rain and reeded pattern.

- Wall-mount and glass-to-glass hinges, header bars, U-channel, sweeps and seals — finish matched to the fixtures already in the room.

Residential
Residential Window and Door Glass Repair
Fog between the panes is a failed seal. No cleaning reaches it, and no bead of caulk brings it back — the desiccant in the spacer is saturated and the unit is finished. We measure the sealed unit, order it built to size, and swap it into the sash you already have. Frames, trim, paint and interior stay untouched.
A cracked pane works the same way. Most windows around here were designed to have their glass replaced, and a whole-window quote is often just the easier sale. When the sash is rotted, the balances are shot or the frame is out of square, we will say so and tell you replacement is the honest answer. When it is not, we will say that too.
- Sealed units (IGU)
- Double and triple pane, argon filled, Low-E coated, rebuilt to your existing overall thickness and spacer so the sash closes and locks the way it did.
- Patio and entry doors
- Tempered panel glass, rollers and track. A slider that takes two hands is usually rollers and a packed track, not the glass.

- Door lites and sidelights, transoms, skylights, arched and custom shapes, plus screens re-meshed in fiberglass or pet-resistant cloth.

How a job runs
Four steps, and no surprises in the middle
Almost every glass complaint traces back to one of two things: a measurement taken in a hurry, or a lead time nobody mentioned. Here is how we handle both.
Tell us what broke
Call, or send photos through the estimate form. One shot of the whole opening, one close-up of the damage, one of any stamp in the corner of the glass. That stamp tells us whether the pane is tempered and who made it.
We measure it properly
Sealed units get measured for width, height and overall thickness, plus the spacer, so the sash still closes and locks. Frameless shower and storefront work gets templated on site against finished surfaces, with plumb checked on every wall.
The glass gets made
Tempered and insulated glass is fabricated to your numbers — it cannot be trimmed on the truck. Common residential sizes move fast; custom shapes, low-iron, patterned and fire-rated glass take longer. You get the real timeline, not a hopeful one.
Installed and cleaned up
Old glazing out, gasket or sealant renewed, new pane set and checked for square. Door hardware adjusted while we are there. Every shard and every offcut leaves with us.

Questions we get every week
Straight answers about glass work
- In most cases, yes. Both single panes and sealed insulated units are replaceable inside the frame you already have, which leaves your sash, trim, paint and interior finish alone. Full window replacement only makes sense when the sash is rotted, the balances have failed, or the frame has moved out of square. We tell you which one you are looking at before anything is ordered.
- No. Fog between the panes means the perimeter seal has failed and the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated with moisture. The haze is on interior surfaces you cannot reach without cutting the unit apart. The fix is a new insulated glass unit built to your exact size and thickness, installed into your existing sash.
- We run 24-hour emergency service seven days a week across Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland. Call the dispatch line and we secure the opening first with plywood cut and fastened to the frame, then measure for permanent glass. Storefront and entrance glass is usually tempered and made to order, so the board-up holds the building while the glass is fabricated.
- Code requires safety glazing in doors and sidelights, in shower and tub enclosures, in glass railings, in panels close to a walking surface, and in glass near a door edge or at the bottom of a stairway. Our Safety Glass Code Checker walks the opening with you. If tempered or laminated glass is required, we spec it, and the permanent stamp in the corner of the pane is your record of it.
- Tempered glass is heat-treated in an oven and cannot be cut, drilled or notched afterward. Every hole, cutout and polished edge has to be finished before tempering, which means it is fabricated to your measurements rather than pulled off a rack. That is also why accurate templating matters more than anything else on a shower or storefront job.
- Photos and rough dimensions get us most of the way. Take one shot of the whole window, door or opening, one close-up of the damage, and one of any label or stamp in the corner of the glass. Send them through the photo estimate form or call and describe the opening. For frameless shower and storefront work we template on site, because those measurements have to be exact.
- Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland.
