For decades, wired glass was the standard for fire-rated glazing in schools because the wire mesh holds the glass in place during a fire, limiting the spread of flames through a broken opening. Modern fire-rated glass — ceramic fire-rated glass, fire-rated laminated glass, and intumescent-interlayer fire-rated glass — provides the required fire protection without the impact vulnerability of wired glass. These products carry both UL fire ratings and CPSC/ANSI safety glazing certifications.
