What Is Typically Covered

Most homeowner insurance policies cover window glass damage from named perils including storms, hail, falling trees and branches, vandalism, break-ins, and accidental impacts. The coverage applies to the glass replacement itself plus associated labor costs, minus your deductible. What is generally not covered is damage from wear and aging — stress cracks from normal thermal cycling, IGU seal failures from age-related deterioration, and glazing compound degradation. The distinction matters: a window cracked by a hailstone is a covered peril, while a window cracked by thermal stress is a maintenance issue.

Document Everything Immediately

Before touching the damaged window, photograph it from multiple angles — close-ups of the damage, wide shots showing the context, and photos of any debris or object that caused the damage. Note the date, time, approximate time of the incident, and weather conditions. If the damage resulted from a break-in, call the police first and do not disturb the scene until they have documented it. This documentation is the foundation of your insurance claim.

Filing the Claim

Contact your insurance company promptly to report the damage and open a claim. You do not need to wait for a repair estimate to file — filing early starts the clock on processing. When the adjuster contacts you, provide your photos, incident details, and our repair estimate. We provide itemized documentation including timestamped photos, measurements, glass specifications, and detailed pricing that adjusters need to approve claims quickly.

How We Help With Claims

We provide comprehensive documentation for insurance claims including detailed damage reports with photographs, glass specifications and pricing breakdowns, and itemized invoices that match insurance company requirements. We work directly with adjusters when needed and can provide supplemental documentation if the adjuster requests additional information. Our goal is to make the claims process as smooth as possible so you can get your glass replaced quickly.

Deductible Considerations

If a storm damages a single window, the replacement cost may be close to or less than your deductible, making a claim unnecessary. However, if the same event damages multiple windows — common during severe DMV storms — the total cost exceeds most deductibles significantly. For multi-window storm damage, filing a claim often makes financial sense even with a deductible. We can provide separate documentation for each damaged window to support comprehensive claims.
